Musician, educator, founder, and the thread that connects them.

I'm a third-generation music teacher and a classical guitarist. Teaching led me to found Blackforrest Music School. Running a school showed me how hard it is for talented teachers to also run a business.

That problem led me to co-found Fons. MakeMusic acquired Fons in 2022, and it continues today as MakeMusic Studio. I wrote Lessons: A Modern Guide to the Business of Teaching Music to share what I've learned, and I host The 440 Podcast to keep learning from musicians, educators, and entrepreneurs.

I serve on the boards of the Guitar Foundation of America and the Guitar & Accessories Marketing Association, and I'm a past president of the Seattle Music Teachers Association. I live and work in Seattle.

Different roles, one belief: a meaningful creative life and a thriving business can go hand in hand.
